Linux Tips I Wish I Knew Long Ago – Script Log

Script is a handy command for keeping a record of what you do. I use it all the time when doing complicated tasks like running tests on servers or perhaps installing a piece of software that isn’t as simple as running yum or apt-get. Then I have a record of each and every step I took, not just the ones I wrote down. Here’s a link to the man page

Easy to use:

$ script filename.log

That starts the logging, then when you are done type Ctrl-D on a blank prompt and the file is completed.
