A Wedding Shot

I took my camera to a friends wedding and at the end of the ceremony I got this shot (as right out of the camera):

Out of the gate it’s not a bad image, has a good sharp subject and all that. But I wasn’t happy with it, I felt that it was too busy and I looked for ways to bring out the subjects and dull the background without it looking too fake and “processed”.

The end result was a series of Gaussian blurs on the background to dull and fade the faces/shapes/etc without losing any of the natural look, also changing the background to black and white while keeping the subjects in color also helped remove the focus, and finally I darkened the background as well to reduce focus.

The end result was something that I thought came out really well and still looked natural and didn’t have the crazy photoshop look you see today.
